UFC fighter Shane Burgos (13-2)

MMA fighters are savages. They are the best athletes on planet earth and — as human beings — have an extraordinarily wide-ranging set of interests. Who are they as people? What makes them tick? What does each athlete have in common with the fans that cheer them on? This series fills in those blanks and gets to the heart of the matter while exploring what makes your favorite fighters who they are.

Shane “Hurricane” Burgos is a UFC fighter in the featherweight division and is currently ranked No. 9. A handful of UFC fighters are MUST WATCH television, and Burgos is one of them. In his 13 wins, he has gone to the judges three times. All the rest of his wins have been finishes – five knockouts and five submissions.

After going 7-0 on the regional scene, Burgos earned his way to the UFC and made his debut in his home state of New York against Tiago Trator. He would win a unanimous decision.

“Hurricane” would return to action four months later in New York again, this time against Charles Rosa. He would defeat Rosa via third-round TKO and earn Fight of the Night honors, something he would earn two other times.

Burgos earned his second Fight of the Night award against Calvin Kattar. He would lose via TKO, in what would be his first professional loss. Burgos would rebound from his first UFC loss by going on a three-fight win streak with some big wins. He beat Kurt Holobaugh, Cub Swanson, and Makwan Amirkhani.

In his most recent fight and only fight of 2020, he would earn his third Fight of the Night award against Josh Emmett. Burgos and Emmett would put on one of the best fights of the year in an all-out war. If you haven’t seen it, seek it out immediately.

Burgos returns against Edson Barboza at UFC 262 on May 15, 2021, in what could be an instant classic. Don’t miss it.

When asked what we should expect from his fight, Burgos said, “The same thing as always. Nonstop action from bell to bell and a performance bonus when I leave the venue.”

Here is a list of UFC Fighter Shane Burgos’ favorite things

  • Favorite food – So hard to narrow it down because I really do love food, but I’m obsessed with Mexican food, particularly
  • Favorite drink – Honestly, water. I’m not a big drink guy; I much rather eat my calories.
  • Favorite color – Black
  • Favorite all-time fight to watch – Hard to choose but Adesanya vs. Gastelum, Shogun vs. Henderson 1, Gaudinot vs. Lineker, Hughes vs. Trigg 2, and Poirier vs. Gaethje
  • Favorite knockout – Mirko Cro Cop vs. Igor Vovchanchyn
  • Favorite of your own fights – I would probably pick my fight with Godofredo Pepey. It was in Long Island, which is close to home, and I had 2 other teammates on the card as well. We had the entire place packed with family, friends, and fans. The energy was amazing the entire week, but especially on fight night! Had a lot of fun in that fight.
  • Favorite sport to watch other than MMA – Boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling. Only combat sports.
  • Favorite submission to practice – Guillotine variations
  • Favorite athlete – I’ve never been into sports aside from combat sports. Even growing up, so my favorite athletes are all fighters. Mirko Cro Cop is my all-time favorite.
  • Favorite movie – Apocalypto
  • Favorite TV show – Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones
  • Favorite song – Oh Lord by NF or End of the Road by Machine Gun Kelly
  • Favorite band or musician – NF
  • Favorite place to travel to – Vegas
  • Favorite video game – The Last Of Us and the Uncharted series
  • Favorite animal – Grizzly Bear
  • Favorite holiday – Christmas
  • Favorite hobby – There’s not much I do besides training, so I would say trying different food and restaurants. I wasn’t joking when I said I love food
