2020 looks very promising from big blockbusters to normal releases.
Here are some of my most anticipated movies of 2020. The list is in no particular order except for the first movie.
- Tenet
Directed by: Christopher Nolan
Starring: John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, & Robert Pattinson.
Opening on: July 17, 2020
Christopher Nolan, cryptic trailer, time, and John David Washington. SIGN ME UP. Nolan’s movies are must see, especially if the movie is from his own mind. The movie definitely gives me Inception vibes which is very exciting. This movie cannot come fast enough.
- Dune
Directed by: Denis Villeneuve
Starring: Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista
Opening on: December 18, 2020
Denis Villeneuve is back finally with one of his biggest challenges: adapting the sci-fi epic Dune. Villeneuve is one of the hottest directors working right now and has made nothing but excellent movies so far. Dune has one of the best casts of recent memory, it literally insane. I am looking forward to this because Villeneuve could have made any movie, but he chose to adapt the almost unadaptable Dune.
- Eternals
Directed by: Chloé Zhao
Starring: Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington, Brian Tyree Henry
Opening on: November 6, 2020
Marvel is back with another cosmic movie. I honestly don’t know much about the characters at all. I’m excited because the cast is great, and Marvel rarely misses. If history tells us anything, unknown comic book characters plus space, equals gold. Who would of thought Angelina Jolie would be in a Marvel movie?
- A Quiet Place Part II
Directed by: John Krasinski
Starring: Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou
Opening on: March 20, 2020
The first movie was awesome and should have gotten more Academy Award love. The trailer showed some flashbacks, so maybe we will find out what happened and what led to the events of the first movie. The best news about this project is that John Krasinski returned to direct. If the sequel is anything like the first movie, we are in for a treat.
- Onward
Directed by: Dan Scanlon
Starring: Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Opening on: March 6, 2020
Pixar’s next move looks like it is going to be a huge tear jerker. Taking place in a fantasy world filled with magical creatures, two brothers set out on an adventure to find some magic so they can see their dad one more time. UGH.
- Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Directed by: Jason Reitman
Starring: Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd
Opening on: July 10, 2020
Jason Reitman takes the reins from his father’s property and directs a sequel to the original Ghostbusters. Not much is known about this movie yet, but the first trailer was awesome. I’m sure Reitman made a great movie, after the disaster of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot.
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Directed by: Michael Chaves
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, Julian Hilliard
Opening on: September 11, 2020
The next installment in the Conjuring series focuses on demonic court case which is interesting. I am very nervous about this movie with James Wan stepping down as director. Michael Chaves who directed The Curse of La Llorona (one of the worst movies of 2019) steps up to direct. I guess I’m just looking forward to the Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson more than anything. Hopefully, they treat this franchise with some respect and not ruin it.
- The King’s Man
Directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Harris Dickinson, Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, Charles Dance, Daniel Brühl
Opening on: September 18, 2020
A prequel to the Kingmans franchise set in the 1900s looks like a lot of fun. Matthew Vaughn returns to direct which is a huge plus. After a lackluster Kingsman part 2, I’m actually kind of glad that they are taking a break and going back in time. Just give me a good story and ultra violence and I’ll be happy.
- Last Night in Soho
Directed by: Edgar Wright
Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Matt Smith, Thomasin McKenzie, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp
Opening on: September 25, 2020
An Edgar Wright psychological horror mystery film…YES PLEASE! The only thing known about the plot is that Wright was inspired by British horror films, Don’t Look Now and Repulsion. Edgar Wright makes great, refreshing movies, so I cannot wait.
- Godzilla vs. Kong
Directed by: Adam Wingard
Starring: Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry
Opening on: November 20, 2020
It’s the showdown of two of the most popular monsters of all time directed by Adam Wingard, need I say more?
I’m rooting for Kong by the way.
- Candyman
Directed by: Nia DaCosta
Starring: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tony Todd, Teyonah Parris
Opening on: June 12, 2020
Jordan Peele is producing a remake of Candyman, that should be enough to sell anyone. There isn’t much known about the plot or the direction, but we do know Tony Todd is reprising his role.
- Wonder Woman 1984
Directed by: Patty Jenkins
Starring: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig
Opening on: June 5, 2020
The first Wonder Woman was fantastic, and the DC universe of movies have been really good as of late. Patty Jenkins returns to direct which is great, because she was the other star of the first movie. Krisien Wiig as the villain is very intriguing to me as well.
Some other movies that looking forward to as well are: Black Widow, Antlers, The Invisible Man, Fast 9, Mulan, No Time to Die, Soul, Halloween Kills, Uncharted & Birds of Prey.
