UFC 242: Khabib vs. Poirier main card predictions

UFC 242 takes place this weekend September 7, 2019 in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. While this card may seem very lackluster just looking at it on paper, the co-main and main event are two excellent fights. The first three fights could easily be on the prelims but nonetheless they are on the main card.

Here are my UFC 242 main card predictions:

Khabib Nurmagomedov (c) vs Dustin Poirier to unify lightweight titles

This is the best lightweight fight that has been booked in a very long time. Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best lightweight fighter in the world and there is an argument that he is the most dominant fighter of all time. Dustin Poirier has been on an absolute roll over the past few years and is always dangerous. This is a striker vs grappler match up that is always interesting in the world of MMA. It just so happens that Nurmagomedov is the best grappler that the UFC has ever seen. I believe Nurmagomedov will win via unanimous decision or via TKO in the fourth round. There is a side of me that is pulling for Poirier to shock the MMA world and be the first man to defeat Khabib.

Edson Barboza vs Paul Felder

A rematch between Edson Barboza and Paul Felder that Felder has been asking for. Barboza won the first match in 2015 via decision. Both fighters have changed since their first match up, especially Felder. Barboza has been in some straight up wars since their first fight and has accumulated a lot of damage. This is essentially a pick em fight or a flip a coin fight. Barboza is coming off a knockout loss that happened in March, which is swaying my thoughts. I predict Felder will win via TKO in the third round BUT I can easily see Barboza winning via split decision.

Islam Makhachev vs Davi Ramos

This fight could have easily been on the prelims but since he is good friends with Khabib, he is on the main card. Islam Makhachev will win via decision.

Shamil Abdurakhimov vs Curtis Blaydes

Curtis Blaydes was one fight away from fighting for the heavyweight championship. Enter the superhuman, Francis Ngannou who ruined Blaydes’ title hopes by knocking him out in the first round. Blaydes is coming in with something to prove and is on a one fight win streak. Blaydes will win via decision.

Diego Ferreira vs Mairbek Taisumov

I would be lying if I told you I was an expert with these two fighters. I’ve seen them fight a few times but that’s it. Both fighters throw power punches and absolutely have knock out power. I predict Ferreira via TKO in the second round.

Enjoy the fights!
